Love

Faith Matters: Love | ksqd.orgFrom: https://ksqd.org

What is love?

According to Cambridge dictionary, love can be defined as an intense feeling of deep affection. Love is when you choose to be at your best even if the other person is not at their best. Furthermore, love is when what you want is never important but rather what the other person want or needs is more important. When you are love with somebody, you will always want to be with the person.

According to the bible, love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth, always hopes, always perseveres – 1 Corinthians 13 : 4 – 7.

That is the type of love that God has for us which make Him to be very patient with us no matter what we do. I have come accross many people who always say that this person is known for doing bad and God still permits the person to live and continue doing the bad the person is known for. No matter our error or mistakes, God’s love is greater. He bestowed such a great love on us even when we don’t merit it. He destroyed the world with flood in Genesis 7:1-24 when Noah was six hundred years of age. You see many people today when you talked to them about Christ, they will say that they have been in the church ever since they were born and yet they are not yet up to hundred years. Noah was six hundred and he was still following God’s command and that will be a topic for another day.

In Genesis 9:11 The bible says that God made a covenant with Noah that He will never again destroy the earth with flood. While? Because of love.

TYPES OF LOVE

Eros love (1 Corinthians 7:7-8): This comes from a Greek word ”erotas” which means intimate, sexual or romantic love. This type of love has to do with physical attraction.

Phileo love (Mark 12:31): This is brotherly love. Many people viewed phileo love as the ideal love. It is about showing loyalthy, giving sacrifice and showing an appreciation. According to Aristotle, he highlited that a person can feel philia towards someone for one of three reasons: that the person is pleasant; that the person is useful and that the person is good. He explained further that one must feel love for themselve before being able to feel love for others. Some other people feel that the best philia love is the one that grows from eros.

Storge love (Exodus 20:12; 1John 4:16): This is the type of love that exist between parents and children.

Agape love (1 John 4:8; John 13:34-35; Romans 5:8; John 3:16): This type of love is universal and charirtable. This is God’s kind of love. This is the love we have inside that we give freely to others regardless of our relationship with them. The idea of this type of love is that you don’t need to know or have met the other person before but still you want to help him or her, cooperate with them or do something good with them or towards them. Where this kind of love exist, we will always tell the truth to the other person, we will laways respect the person, we will always obey the person, we will always be patient with the person, we will always forgive the person no matter the error, we will always want to hear from the person and know his or her wellbeing, we will always want to appreciate what the person is doing. (To be continued.)

Prayer: Thank You Lord for your great love that You have bestowed on me and my family. Give us the grace to show love to others as You have shown to us no matter what they done to us in the name of Jesus christ.

The importance of baptism

Baptism of Jesus by JohnFrom: https://www.goodsalt.com

Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to deter Him, saying, I need to be baptized by You and do You come to me? Jesus replied, let it be so now, it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness. Then John consented. As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on Him. And a voice from heaven said, ”This is My Son, whom I love, with Him I am well pleased’ – Matthew 3 : 13 – 17. (Message bible version).

After the baptism, nothing changed in His physical body but something has shifted in the spirit realm. The bible says that the Spirit of God  descended on Him like a dove and a voice followed. Immediately after the baptism, He was led into the wilderness and He was tested by satan after which He started preaching the way to enter into the kingdom of heaven because He has been empowered. He was not tested before the baptism but rather after. He could have been tested even before the baptism as a child of God but He went to baptized first so that we should know how vital baptism is in the life of a believer.

During His teaching, He explained what will be stumbling blocks or what will deprive us from inheriting the kingdom of heaven. He made us to know who owns the key of life in His hands and who has the authority over everything.

It is the samething when one receives anointing, physically no change is seen but something has changed in the spiritual realm. When Samuel went to go and anoint David in the presence of his brothers and father 1 Samuel 16 : 1 – 13. After anointing David, he has to go back to the shepherd’s field. The spiritual shift starts preparing him for the kingship. The anointing kept him alive no matter how hard Saul tried to kill him, after killing Goliath he didn’t succeed and later what God has said concerning him came to reality.

With the above we should take baptism to be very important. When we go for baptism, we might not see any physical change in our body or the garment we put on, but we should be confident that a shift has happened in the spirit realm. After accepting Jesus Christ into our lives the next stage of a believer is to go for baptism so that our old self will be laid to rest while our new self will rise as we go out of the water.

PRAYER: O Lord, thank You for the gift of baptism give us the grace to be patient so that we can be partakers of the blessings that go with baptism in the name of Jesus Christ.

Importance of thanksgiving

Prayer Resource for Schools: Thanksgiving Prayers From: http://prayer-resource.blogspot.com

Now on His way to Jerusalem, Jesus travelled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. As He was going into a village, ten men who had leprous met Him. They stood at a distance and called out in a loud voice, Jesus, Master, have pity on us. When He saw them, He said, ”Go, show yourselves to the priests”. And as they went, they were cleansed. One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him and he was a Samaritan. Jesus asked, ”Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner? Then He said to him, ”Rise and go, your faith has made you well”Luke 17 : 11 – 19. (NIV).

Most times we seems not to know or we don’t want to know the importance of thanksgiving. We render the little help we can to anyone and most times we don’t even expect any thank you from whom we have helped. Despite that, according to the above bible verses, Jesus want us to know the importance of saying thank you to anyone who has helped us in one way or the other.

God is doing many miracles and wonders in our lives, we don’t even remember to say thank You Lord at times. According to the above passage, we have to understand that the healing was in two parts. The first part was when Jesus told them to go and show themselves to the priests and the second part came after one of them came back to say thank you Lord. The other nine were only satisfied and settled for half blessing. Jesus even asked if the ten of them were not healed and where are the remaining nine?

Brethren, let’s be grateful and appreciative everytime. When we wake up in the morning, do we spend time to say thank you Lord for another new day? We forgot that many went to bed with us and they have good plans but they couldn’t wake up. If you think that it was the alarm that wake you up, try and place an alarm close to a dead body and see if the dead body will wake up. Below are some prayers of thanksgiving to the Lord.

1. Thank You for giving me the grace to keep Your ways and not depart from them in the name of Jesus Christ – 2 Samuel 22 : 21.

2. Thank You Lord for being my strength and power in the name of Jesus Christ – 2 Samuel 22 : 33.

3. Thank You Lord for making me feet like the Deer’s feet in the name of Jesus Christ – 2 Samuel 22 : 34.

4. Thank You Lord for making my way perfect – 2 Samuel 22 : 33.

5. Thank You Lord for lifting me up above those who rise up against me in the name of Jesus Christ – 2 Samuel 22 : 49.

6. Thank You Lord for guarding my feet anywhere I go in the name of Jesus Christ – 1 Samuel 2 : 9.

7. Thank You Lord, with Your mouth You speak and with Your hand You fulfil – 1 Kings 8 : 15.

8. Thank You Lord for hearing my cry – Exodus 22 : 23.

9. Thank You Lord for Your tender mercy in the name of Jesus Christ – Psalm 79 : 8.

10. Thank You Lord answering my prayers in the name of Jesus Christ.

God´s Instructions

Image result for god's instructions Image source : Google

Then said the Lord unto Moses, behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate everyday, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law or no. And it shall come to pass, that on the sixth day they shall prepare that which they bring in and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.- Exodus 16 : 4 – 5.

These were the instructions God gave to the children of Israel through Moses and Aaron but they refused to take the instructions. They decided to do things in their own way. Anytime we refuse to obey God´s instructions, there is always a price to pay for disobedience, we prolong the manifestation of God´s blessings.

And Moses said, let no man leave of it till the morning. Not withstanding, they hearkened not unto Moses but some of them left it until the morning and it bred worms and stank and Moses was wroth with them. And they gathered it every morning, every man according to his eating and when the sun waxed hot, it melted. And it came to pass that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one man and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses And he said unto them, this is  that which the Lord hath said, tomorrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the Lord, bake that which ye will bake today and seethe that ye will seethe and that which remain over lay up for you to be kept until the morning. And they laid it up till the morning as Moses bade and it did not stink neither was there any worm therein – Exodus 16 : 19 – 24.

When the day that God told them to collect double came, no worm, no bad odour neither did it stank. The bible says in 1 Samuel 15 : 22b Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice and to hearken than the fat of rams. He is ever ready to help us.

How many instructions has God given to you which you have not followed? Brethren, it is not too late, turn to Him and plead for forgiveness and follow up His instructions because it is not His will for anyone to perish or lost.

PRAYER: O lord, give us the grace to be obedience to Your instructions no matter hoe small it might be and forgive us for our disobedience in the name of Jesus Christ..
