The importance of baptism

Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to deter Him, saying, I need to be baptized by You and do You come to me? Jesus replied, let it be so now, it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness. Then John consented. As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on Him. And a voice from heaven said, ”This is My Son, whom I love, with Him I am well pleased’‘ – Matthew 3 : 13 – 17. (Message bible version).
After the baptism, nothing changed in His physical body but something has shifted in the spirit realm. The bible says that the Spirit of God descended on Him like a dove and a voice followed. Immediately after the baptism, He was led into the wilderness and He was tested by satan after which He started preaching the way to enter into the kingdom of heaven because He has been empowered. He was not tested before the baptism but rather after. He could have been tested even before the baptism as a child of God but He went to baptized first so that we should know how vital baptism is in the life of a believer.
During His teaching, He explained what will be stumbling blocks or what will deprive us from inheriting the kingdom of heaven. He made us to know who owns the key of life in His hands and who has the authority over everything.
It is the samething when one receives anointing, physically no change is seen but something has changed in the spiritual realm. When Samuel went to go and anoint David in the presence of his brothers and father 1 Samuel 16 : 1 – 13. After anointing David, he has to go back to the shepherd’s field. The spiritual shift starts preparing him for the kingship. The anointing kept him alive no matter how hard Saul tried to kill him, after killing Goliath he didn’t succeed and later what God has said concerning him came to reality.
With the above we should take baptism to be very important. When we go for baptism, we might not see any physical change in our body or the garment we put on, but we should be confident that a shift has happened in the spirit realm. After accepting Jesus Christ into our lives the next stage of a believer is to go for baptism so that our old self will be laid to rest while our new self will rise as we go out of the water.
PRAYER: O Lord, thank You for the gift of baptism give us the grace to be patient so that we can be partakers of the blessings that go with baptism in the name of Jesus Christ.
Seek first His kingdom
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble – Matthew 6 : 33 – 34.
This bible verse is well
known and we always confess it without considering the deep meaning of it. There are some things that looks very simple and common but very vast in meaning and this verse is one of such. Without seeking His kingdom first, can become an obstacle to our prayers.
To seek the kingdom of God involves our way of speaking, our way of thinking, our relationship with our neighbor, our trust in God no matter the circumstances, bible study is included, obedience, relationship with your workmate, with your boss no matter whether he is cheating you or not, your way of working that is whether you feel that you are working just for the money or for your boss or for God, when you are sick do you believe on the fearful words the doctor is telling or what God say about you, trials are involve.
We always feel that when we are working, we are working for our boss but there is nothing wrong with that. I feel that we should have the feelings that we are working for God because if we feel we are working for somebody, when the person offend you, you will be annoyed but if you feel that you are working for God, no matter what anybody do to you, it will not hurt you.
The bible says, in 1 Corinthians 10 : 13 that, No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man, but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
We are very worried if any trial comes our way. When we worry, we are saying we don’t trust You, God. So we should pray instead of worrying. No matter the trials, keep on trusting Him because He is always faithful.
Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all – Psalm 34 : 19
Delight yourself also in the Lord and He shall give you the desires of your heart – Psalm 37 : 4.
It doesn’t matter what trials or afflictions you are passing through, but if you are able to trust Him completely, you are seeking first His kingdom and you become a testimony because whatever you do will prosper in your hand.
Who are those that fly like a cloud and like doves to their roots – Isaiah 60 : 8.
If we seek His kingdom first in everything we do, things will become very easy for us.
Most times what we call blessing is only when we have money in our account. Brethren, there are many people whose account is so great that they don’t know what to use the money for but they don’t have peace as you have because your peace comes from our Heavenly Father whose peace is not like that of the world, some lack happiness.
Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village and a certain woman named Marta welcomed Him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. But Marta was distracted with much serving and she approached Him and said, Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore, tell her to help me. And Jesus answered and said to her, Marta, Marta, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed and Mary has chosen that good part which will not be taken away from her – Luke 10 : 38 – 42.
There is nothing bad in preparing food for Jesus but that was not the most important thing. Jesus came to their house despite His short time and instead of Marta to listen to His words but she was worried about food but there was nothing bad in that. We worry ourselves and seek the less important things. Material things are temporal but the kingdom of God is eternal and that is what our Heavenly Father want us to seek in anything we do.
The bible talk about many servant of God who during trials their faith was not shaken.
We all know the story of Joseph in Genesis 37, Genesis 39, Genesis 40 and Genesis 41 how he suffered both in the hands of his brothers and in Portipher’s house and later landed in prison. Despite the fact that he was accused wrongly, he never allow his faith to move, he did not continue to cry and say God why me as most of us will always do in such situation as his but instead he trusted the Lord who has said that in Numbers 23 : 20 that, Behold, I have received a command to bless, He has blessed and I cannot reverse it.
My brethren, if not God that was with Joseph how will it has been possible for him to see the sky again in his life? But God knows and see our situation more than we can imagine. No matter the situation you in, seek His kingdom first and He will provide a solution to you at the right time.
God is not ready to forget you. There is a set time for our blessings. We are in the new year, I encourage each and everyone to start this new year with the purpose of making Heaven to be our target because tomorrow might be too late.
PRAYER : Father, I thank You for Your blessings upon my life and family everyday. Lord, help me to always seek first Your kingdom in everything that I do so that the inheritance will not pass us by in the name of Jesus Christ.
