But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him and saying, Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said to him, you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it. You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets – Matthew 22 : 34 – 40; Deuteronomy 6 : 5.
Another thing that can cause obstacle or hindrance to our prayer is when we refuse to love. What is the level of your love towards God? You go to church and a message is preached simply because it touches the area which is very private to you, you decided not to go to church or because someone else has offended you in one way or the other you decided not to go to your Father’s house. It is because you don’t love God, if you love Him, nothing will take you away from your Father’s house. He do not expect us to compare our love with His own because God’s love is incomparable.
No matter the difference that exist between you and your neighbor, you just have to love him and is not optional. Whether you have reasons or not, God expect you to love him or her. Your way of doings might not agree with his or her own and you are not expected to focus on that but rather to love with the love of God.
Love suffers long and is kind, love does not envy, love does not parade itself, is not puffed up, does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil, does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth, bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails, but whether there are prophecies, they will fail, whether there are tongues, they will cease, whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away – 1 Corinthians 13 : 4 -8.
When you allow the love of God to grow in you, you will have no hatred towards anyone no matter the wrong that has been done against you, you will always overcome it with love. If we love only those that love us what benefit can we receive from our Heavenly Father – John 6 : 32. Most times, when we show an action of love, we feel that the other person will take advantage of us which is a wrong notion. You are not loving the person because of the person but rather you are loving the person because of God and He is ready to protect you.
The word of God instruct us to love our enemies and if we refuse to love them, we are not only acting in disobedience, there will be no happiness in us which will now make us to carry unnecessary burden along anywhere we go and with that we cannot enter His rest. One error will bring other series of unwanted negative circumstances.
At times we show love to others when we are expecting to receive from God or from the person and it doesn’t work like that. We should love without condition, without expecting anything in return. Our love should be unconditional no matter where we are and no matter the circumstances. We should not try to exchange our love for anything because God love us unconditionally and He expect us to do the same.
On the cross of Calvary, Jesus Christ still show love to those that persecuted Him. Most times, when we are being offended, we try to bury them alive which is very wrong. There are times that someone can offend you unknowingly or due to lack of wisdom and instead of you to approach the issue with love but you respond with anger without love.
With love, the world will be a very peaceful place to live in. With love, there will be no war, with love there will be no superiority, with love there will be no robbery, with love there will be no embezzlement of public and private fund, with love there will be no injustice, with love there will be no maltreatment, with love there will be no self centered, love is peace.
PRAYER : Covenant keeping God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob with all Your incomparable power, help me to love anyone that come my way no matter any wrong done to me. Help me to love unconditionally in the name of Jesus Christ.
